Good question. Check out my new blog at www.mafiawarsfamily.com and I’ll tell you all about my experience buying strategy/cheat guides. Thanks!
Honestly you just can’t get thousands of Mafia Wars friends fast. I see people everyday suggesting I join a Mafia Wars group in Facebook that will add 3000 friends to my mafia family overnight. That never happens. To get 3000 friends they often ask you to join the group and then they want you to invite all of your current friends to join the group as well. Once you have done that, they want proof that you did invited your friends by posting the list on the discussion board. If I do all of these things I still end up with just a couple of new friends. However, I’ve found a better way to add friends quickly but it takes some work. Here’s how to add Mafia Wars friends fast:
1) Go to the top right of your Facebook page and locate the search box. Type in Mafia Wars.
2) After the results are displayed locate the word “Groups” in the column on the left and click “Groups”.
3) Now look at the list of groups. The bigger the group the better.
4) Click on the word “members” right under the name of the group.
5) All of the members of that group will be displayed in a pop-up box.
6) Click on the “Add as friend”.
7) Click on “Add a personal message…”
8)) Now paste your Mafia Wars personal link in the blank box. For example, http://apps.facebook.com/inthemafia/status_invite.php?from=100000224284188
Note: You can replace the 100000224284188 with your own code. Click on “Profile” at the top of your Facebook page. Look at the web address that appears in your web browser. It will look something like this:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/profile.php?id=100000224284188&ref=profile
Your code is displayed after “php?id=” and before “&ref=profile”. Take the code and add it to the end of the following link:
http://apps.facebook.com/inthemafia/status_invite.php?from=
Alternatively you can get your personal link by logging into Mafia Wars then click on “Home”. Scroll to the bottom of the game window and you may see a box that says “Out of requests?”. There you will see a link for your invites.
9) After you paste your link into the blank box click “send request”. Now when the person receives your invite they can click on the link and they will be added as a Mafia Wars friend immediately.
10) Repeat steps 6 through 8 until you get tired of adding friends!
If you find this post useful then please add me as your Mafia Wars friend.

Thanks!
This is a good question. Yes, it is possible that you can be Mafia Wars friends with someone and not Facebook friends. If you want to do this then you need to move your mouse over “Friends” at the top of your Facebook page then a drop down menu will appear. Click on “All Friends”. Now go through your list and click the “X” to the right of the person’s name that you do not want to be friends with. Here’s the catch…
If you do this then you will no longer be able to send gifts to fulfill someone’s wishlist. In addition, you will not be able to help them on a job which means you could miss out on some extra experience points and money. Personally I chose not to do this. I prefer the method I explained here which will block people from seeing your personal information while still enjoying all the features of Mafia Wars.
I’ve finally figured out how to block strangers in Facebook from seeing my personal information. If you are interested here is what you need to do…
1) Of course you need to be logged into your account first then move your mouse over “Friends” located at the top of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “All Friends”.
2) A page will be displayed with all of your friends listed. Right above the first person you will see a button to “Create New List”. Click on the button and a box will open where you can place a name for your list. I suggest you name it something like: Mafia Wars Friends. Then hit enter.
NOTE: If you have a lot of friends then you might like this sweet little trick to select them all automatically. This only works in Firefox web browser (the best web browser ever!). Copy the code below and past it into the field you use to enter a web address and press enter. You must do this while the box is still open that displays all of your friends. Once this is done you will see all of your friends have been selected.
javascript:elms=document.getElementById(‘friends’).getElementsByTagName(‘li’);for(var fid in elms){if(typeof elms[fid] === ‘object’){fs.click(elms[fid]);}}
Now that all of your friends have been selected you can hit “Create List” located at the bottom of the box or you can check off your real friends that you don’t mind sharing personal information with. It’s your call. Once you hit “Create List” this will place all of your friends into the new list that you created.
3) Now that you have created a list for your Mafia Friends you can block them from seeing your personal information. Move your mouse over “Settings” located at the top right of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “Privacy Settings”. Now click on “Profile”.
4) Now you will see Profile, Basic Info, etc. which all have pull down menus next to them. For Profile you want to click the menu and select “Only Friends”.
5) For Basic Info, Personal Info, Status and Links, etc you want to select Customize…
You will see below “Except These People” a green plus sign. Click on the plus sign and you will be shown the name of the Mafia Friends list you created. Select the list and click “Okay”. You will need to repeat this process for all of the other items as well.
Note: When you get to “Photos Tagged of You”, you will need to click on “Edit Photo Albums Privacy Settings” and perform the same procedure I just described on all your photo albums.
6) Don’t forget to click on “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page when you are done making changes! 8)
7) After that is done go back to your “Profile” described in step 3 then look for the box or tab that says “Contact Information”. It’s right next to the “Basic” tab. You need to click on “Contact Information” and repeat the process for all those items as you did in step 5.
8.) Again, don’t forget to click on “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page when you are done making changes! 8)
9) Lastly go back to the top right of your Facebook page and move your mouse over “Settings”. When the pull down menu appears, click on “Privacy Settings”. This time you want to click on “Applications” which is the fourth item down.
10) Now click on the “Settings” tab right next to the “Overview” tab. You will see a bunch of boxes with check marks next to them. Uncheck all the boxes to prevent applications from sharing your information with other people. Then click on “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
11) Congratulations you are done! From now on you can start adding new friends to Facebook and select the list that you created and they will be immediately blocked from your personal information when you accept their friendship.

Okay I know, not all of my friends like to play Mafia Wars nor do they want to keep seeing messages from the game on their wall so here is what you need to do if you want to maintain your friendship with your non-Mafia Wars friends.
If you want to stop sending messages from Mafia Wars to your friends then you will need to do the following:
1) Of course you need to be logged into your account first then move your mouse over “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “Application Settings”.
2) Look for the Mafia Wars application and click on “Edit Settings”. A pop-up window will appear then click on the “Privacy” pull down menu and select “Only Me”. Click on the tab called “Additional Permissions” located in the same pop-up window. Uncheck the box. It may say “Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my wall” or “Publish to streams”. Either way you want to uncheck it then click “okay”.
3) Go back to “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “Privacy Settings” then click on “News Feed and Wall”. You will now have the option to uncheck those things that you don’t want to be displayed such as “Show wall posts”. When you are done click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
4) Go back to “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. (This is the last time) A pull down menu will appear, click on “Account Settings” then click on the tab that says “Notifications”. Scroll down until you see a category called “Other Applications”. Under this category you will find Mafia Wars. Uncheck the box next to Mafia Wars.
Now you are done and Mafia Wars should not send out messages which some people would consider annoying.
If you find something I missed then please leave a comment. Thanks!
Well it seems that my real friends are getting a bit annoyed with the Mafia Wars posts that keep showing up on their wall. I am working on blocking the application from being a nuisance to them. The last thing I want to do is irritate my friends that do not play Mafia Wars.
Okay I have finally figured out how to block my Mafia Wars friends from accessing my personal information on Facebook. I have created a separate page to explain in detail how this is done since it is quite lengthy.
Click here if you are interested.
This is crazy!!!
I cannot believe I am playing a game that doesn’t even have any animation nor does it utilize all the cool 3D graphics that video cards are now capable of rendering. I have a nice computer that could run most of the high end games with intense all immersing graphical environments with incredible real-time sound effects and yet I am playing a game on Facebook that has none of this. There is something incredibly addicting to Mafia Wars.
I was really getting into Mafia Wars. My friend at work told me since I had already been playing 5 days straight then I should keep on playing for 2 more days to get the award for playing 7 days straight. I figured what the heck is 2 more days, so I played on….
I woke up early to do some jobs so that my energy would not be sitting there all day not being used. By getting the jobs done early in the morning when I woke up I would then have the rest of the day while I was at work to let my energy restore itself.
Now my father-in-law and I were talking about Mafia Wars every time we saw each other. I gave him some tips and tricks I learned and he gave me some in return. My father-in-law, Bob, was already really into Mafia Wars. Being that he was retired he had all the time in the world to play the game. Although you really don’t gain much by playing all day unless your energy and stamina have already regenerated and it is sitting there idle. Bob was adding new friends to his Mafia Family every day (that’s what he was doing with his spare time). I was reluctant to do that because I didn’t want strange people having access to my Facebook information. I was getting jealous of his growing family. He was getting lots of gifts from them and he had tons more opportunities to help his family members out which gave him extra experience points pushing him closer up to the next level. Obviously I hadn’t been playing the game as long as he had which was about a 3 weeks difference so I would never be able to catch up with him, but the level gap between us was widening. He was moving up levels much faster than me. I had to figure out how to befriend strangers without giving them access to all my personal information…
