How to Block Messages from Mafia Wars
Okay I know, not all of my friends like to play Mafia Wars nor do they want to keep seeing messages from the game on their wall so here is what you need to do if you want to maintain your friendship with your non-Mafia Wars friends.
If you want to stop sending messages from Mafia Wars to your friends then you will need to do the following:
1) Of course you need to be logged into your account first then move your mouse over “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “Application Settings”.
2) Look for the Mafia Wars application and click on “Edit Settings”. A pop-up window will appear then click on the “Privacy” pull down menu and select “Only Me”. Click on the tab called “Additional Permissions” located in the same pop-up window. Uncheck the box. It may say “Publish recent activity (one line stories) to my wall” or “Publish to streams”. Either way you want to uncheck it then click “okay”.
3) Go back to “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. A pull down menu will appear, click on “Privacy Settings” then click on “News Feed and Wall”. You will now have the option to uncheck those things that you don’t want to be displayed such as “Show wall posts”. When you are done click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
4) Go back to “Settings” located at the top of your Facebook page. (This is the last time) A pull down menu will appear, click on “Account Settings” then click on the tab that says “Notifications”. Scroll down until you see a category called “Other Applications”. Under this category you will find Mafia Wars. Uncheck the box next to Mafia Wars.
Now you are done and Mafia Wars should not send out messages which some people would consider annoying.
If you find something I missed then please leave a comment. Thanks!
OK–THis is how they can STOP sending out the info but…
How can I block that Mafia Wars content without blocking the friend?

If you are receiving Mafia Wars messages from friends posted to your wall then place your mouse over the message and you will see the word “Hide” pop up in the top right hand corner of the message. Click on the word “Hide” and a drop down menu will appear then click on “Hide Mafia Wars”. Now you will not see the messages from Mafia Wars but you will still be friends with that person.

I was able to do all the things you suggested to keep from having my non-MW friends get posts, but when I click “edit settings” next to the MW application in the Edit Applications window, I do not have the Profile tab available in the Edit Mafia Wars Settings dialog. It only shows Bookmarks and Additional Permissions.
What am I missing that I can’t see the Profile tab. I can see it on my other applications, such as Mobsters 2.

That seems odd to me. I’m not sure what could be causing the profile tab to disappear. When you click on “edit settings” next to your Mafia Wars application you should by default be on the “profile” tab when the window pops up.
